Safe House

The time is 1863 in the town of Ripley, Nathaniel and his family lived there with his  grandfather.   This is the first summer Nathaniel will have a summer without his father being there with him. His father had in listed with the 89^th. Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

      Their town was known for runaway slaves going through there.   Nathaniel’s mother was very against taking any part in the helping of slaves. Grandpa Johnson and his father were all for helping them get to freedom.  Nathaniel  goes out to the barn to relax. He hears his cat making all kinds of noises. So he figures he is after a mouse. So he goes down to try to help the cat catch it. The cat is looking forward tail is going crazy. Nathaniel looks up and he sees pairs of eyes. It is runaway slaves.  What will Nathaniel do?  He knows what his mom would say, but he knows what grandpa would do.

      I really enjoyed the story. Very well written and I’m looking forward to more.
